After a string of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Dubbed Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unidentified artist the project is based on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The new project, dubbed the Space Key - is a work of art that was that was created in collaboration with an unknown artist. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is accessed through an QR code. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.
The Space Key is made from a carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an experiment. The carbon fiber was then transformed into an original artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical piece is equipped with an NFT serial number that is linked to the digital art work via a QR code located on the back.
For those who aren't in the know, NFTs are distinct identifiers stored on a blockchain ledger that is linked to digital assets such as a picture, video or any other recording. This allows owners to verify the authenticity, scarcity, and the traceability of their tokens on the internet.
Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art by collaborating with NFT PRO, an white label NFT solution for business. Over the next few weeks Lamborghini will reveal details about the exciting project, including the name of the unidentified artist, as well as the timeline for the auction.

The NFT was created in collaboration with a mysterious artist and will go on auction within a few weeks. Its base is made of advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was delivered to the International Space Station in 2019 as part a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive digital artwork using QR codes. Only five Space Keys were produced.

The digital artwork

At the heart of each Space Key is a block of carbon fire composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with QR codes that link to the digital element of the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels each of the five images, that were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.
Oefner used an inflatable camera fitted with a lens to capture the individual images, which were later combined into the final photo. The result is an image that is completely out of the world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic view of a car rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and time of the auction hasn't been confirmed yet.

The auctions, which will occur between February 1 through February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes, the same amount of time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. By enrolling online, you'll be able to bid on the five NFTs. Each one will be auctioned individually and the winner will receive a digital artwork created by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its flight through space.
